Osijek-Baranja County is full of its riches. Its inhabitants, although aware of this, do not boast. Modesty, they say, is a virtue. But these beauties must not be hidden. They need to be shown so that others can appreciate them but also so that they can be admired.
Cereals and livestock in these areas were grown in the Neolithic period, and wine and architecture took root in Roman times.

Kopačevo, in the heart of Baranja, 4 km east of Bilje, is a small place full of its charms.


This place with a majority Hungarian population has existed since the second millennium BC. Archaeological excavations tell the story of a Roman settlement and a fortress for defense against Barbara called Ad Labores.
Once upon a time, the whole of Kopačevo lived off fish, with 200 fishermen. Today, as a memorial to those ancient times, at the beginning of September, Fishermen’s Days are celebrated, which you must not miss, and taste fish specialties as well as game dishes drenched in good Baranja wines.
Proximity to the world famous national park Kopački rit and other flora which by its existence aspires as eternity. Some individual plants and animal species are protected, accessible to the eye, which real connoisseurs know how to enjoy for days.
The whole of the surrounding underwater plains is the greatest value of wider significance because it is home to many bird species. Lovers of the pure unspoiled natural environment and wilderness along the Rit will hold their breath from the soothing, sunken in the mist of the landscape and dew-washed, silently shrouded forest glades.

The area has been known since time immemorial for eating well here. Spicy lovers dream of greaves, bacon, sausages, blood sausage, kulen, ham … and sweet lovers will sweeten their fingers and palates with homemade strudels.
The original “fish stew” spiced with the famous Kopačevo ground pepper as well as “carp in forks”, a specialty of this region, will give the palate joy.
Beauty, customs and wealth are reflected on the rosy cheeks of the local girls, of this area.
